Yellow warning issued for snow and ice in the north-east

A yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued for the north-east overnight and into tomorrow.

The Met Office have the alert in place until 11am and it comes into place at 5pm this evening. 

A separate alert is in place on from 5pm tomorrow until 11am on Thursday. 

Roads and rail journeys are likely to be impacted with people being urged to take extra precautions due to icy surfaces. 

Aberdeen Council have confirmed they will be gritting all primary routes in the city this afternoon. 

Snow gates on the A939 Nairn to Ballater road were closed overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing. 

But the Lecht Road, heading to the Ski Centre, is now open. 

Temperatures could drop to minus 8 this evening.
