Two people rescued from River Dee near Banchory 'in good health'

Two people have been rescued by the fire service after getting stuck underneath a bridge near Banchory.

The incident occurred at the Potarch Bridge on the River Dee where the council road workers were clearing flood debris.

Emergency services were called to the scene to the bridge between Banchory and Aboyne at 11:41am. 

Three appliances and two water rescue teams attended the scene and the workers were safely rescued at 1:40pm.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “Earlier today, a team of roads workers were clearing flood debris from below Potarch Bridge when two members became cut-off by rising river levels.

"Emergency services responded quickly to the incident and were able to safely remove the men. They have been checked over by paramedics and are in good health.

"An internal investigation has been launched into the incident.”

Meanwhile, Scottish Fire and Service confirmed they attended the incident and "handed both men into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service" before crews were stood down.
