Sturgeon stands firm on music ban in pubs - after Aberdeen bar's closure

The first minister has stood firm on rules banning background music in pubs - saying the measure is needed to protect people's health.

Some experts suggest that coronavirus can be spread more easily if people are shouting or singing.

As a result, the Scottish Government has banned excess noise created by music or TVs in bars.

But some business owners claim it is leading to a drop in business - with Aberdeen bar Cheerz closing at the weekend as a result.

Its operations manager George Mackenzie has started a petition on the issue.

He told the P&J that he had "no other choice", as people are choosing to stay away due to a lack of atmosphere.

Original 106 asked Nicola Sturgeon at her daily briefing whether she would soon have to make a choice between protecting public health and protecting jobs, with the UK Government's furlough scheme beginning to wind down.

You can watch her response in our video above.
