Specialist divers join search for missing north-east teacher

Police say that searches are continuing for a north-east teacher who fell into the sea near Peterhead.

Owain Bristow, 34, was rock climbing in the Bullars of Buchan area at around 7.35pm last Friday when he disappeared.

Since then, an extensive search has been taking place involving officers from the Police Scotland dive and marine unit, and the coastguard.

Officers have also deployed a drone to provide an aerial search of the area.

Inspector Andy Scott of Ellon police station said: "We have been carrying out extensive searches of the area, sadly so far without success.

"We have been keeping Owain's family informed throughout this activity.

"I would take the opportunity to thank our partner agencies for their support of search activity.

"Anyone who believes they may be able to help our search is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3552 of August 21."

Mr Bristow is the head of biology at Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen.

Earlier this week a spokesperson for the school said: "The college is coming to terms with this devastating news and he will be greatly missed by us all."
