Scottish football fans hope restrictions on full crowds lift next week

Football fans across Scotland are eagerly awaiting the First Minister's latest update on the coronavirus pandemic in Scotland this afternoon.

Nicola Sturgeon is due to address Holyrood later, weeks after restrictions on crowds at stadia across the country were re-introduced.

Since Boxing Day last year, crowds have been limited to a maximum of 500 people.

But there is hope that this limit can be lifted in time for the Premiership resuming next week after the SPFL brought forward the winter break for Scotland's top flight.

Ms Sturgeon is scheduled to address the Scottish Parliament sometime after 2.00pm today.

Meanwhile, games in the Championship, League One and League Two have continued in recent weeks, with most of the third round ties of the Scottish Women's Cup having taken place at the weekend.
