Public health expert not surprised after high number of Scottish coronavirus cases linked to football fans attending Euro 2020 related events

A public health expert has expressed no surprise after it was revealed nearly 2,000 coronavirus cases in Scotland were linked with football fans enjoying the European Championships.

Two-thirds said they went to London nearly two weeks ago when Scotland took on England, according to a report from Public Health Scotland.

Nearly 400 fans attended the game itself at Wembley.

But many more were in the UK capital on 18 June, the date of the match, despite not having a ticket.

Nine out of ten cases reported were male.

Elsewhere, 55 cases were related to attendance at a tournament fanzone in Glasgow, with 38 of them linked to the Croatia game (which took place 22 June) and 37 to the Czech Republic match (which was on the 14 June).
