Police probe as £80k worth of stock stolen from Aberdeen clothing store

Police are investigating after stock said to be worth more than £80,000 was stolen from an Aberdeen clothes shop.

Thieves targeted Over-Hype on The Green, between 8pm yesterday and 10am today.

Detective Sergeant John Pirie, of north-east CID, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have any information about the break-in to come forward.

"A five-figure sum of clothing was stolen from the shop along with a small sum of cash. Officers are carrying out enquiries and reviewing CCTV in an effort to establish who was responsible.

"Anyone who was in the area during the early hours of today and has information that will assist this investigation is asked to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 0898 of Tuesday December 1 2020. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."

The shop's owner has now set up a fundraising page to help him reopen the store.

A post on the site said: "In the early hours of December 1, our brand new flagship store was robbed of over £80,000 worth of stock, after being open for just two weeks.

"We put absolutely everything into our new store opening, not only time and energy but also a lot money, which we now fear may have been all for nothing.

"Being a new store and wanting to open as quickly as possible for the community, meant we were still in the process of securing the shop with CCTV and alarm systems, which were due installation early the following week.

"We are making this public appeal to reach out and ask for help in getting us back on our feet. If you can spare a small or big donation it would be greatly appreciated at this hard time.

"The funds will be used to recoup stock, cover damages and also cover employee wages during our closure.

"We would also appreciate any shares of our campaign and if anyone notices anything suspicious (items being sold cheap on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree) please reach out to any member of the team or directly via our social media."
