People aged 18-29 can register to get Covid vaccine details

People aged 18 to 29 in Scotland can now register via an online portal to find out when they will get their Covid-19 vaccine.

The programme is moving on to focus on younger age groups, with people in their 30s among those now being sent appointments.

But anyone in the youngest category can visit this website or call 0800 030 8013 before June 4 to get their appointment details sent to them by email or text.

Those who do not register will still be sent their appointment details by letter.

It comes as the health secretary Humza Yousaf has received his first dose of the vaccine - one of more than 3.1 million people across the country to have received their first jab.

1.8 million have had both injections.

Mr Yousaf says he is in discussions with health boards to look at boosting the speed of the vaccine rollout, after a study found having both doses is effective in protecting against new variants.

Mr Yousaf said: "With the April 02 variant currently circulating in parts of the UK, it continues to be vitally important that everyone takes the opportunity to get both doses of their vaccination when this is offered. The second dose offers greater and longer lasting protection, and should not be missed.

"We want everyone to come forward for a vaccine and we continue to work with community organisations to address any barriers people may experience to ensure that everyone is able to get an appointment.

"The vaccines we have are extremely safe and highly effective. Vaccination is absolutely crucial to protect ourselves, our families and our communities, and to help us on the path back to normality."
