On your marks, set, GO - The Grampian Forest Rally returns to the north-east with huge line-up

The sound of cars will travel through the forests of Aberdeenshire this weekend as the Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally returns to the north-east.

The Banchory event is hosting a bumper line-up of some of the most well known rally drivers in the country as they are set to tackle six stages over 43 miles.

Stages are taking place through the Drumtochty and Fetteresso forests.

Almost one hundred cars will be chequered off from the ceremonial start at the public car park in Banchory at 9am as they aim to take the rally win and add pints to the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship.

Matt Cotton is the event's media officer who says they cannot wait for the event to begin:

On-form Jock Armstrong will lead the crews from the start in Banchory with his Subaru with co-driver Hannah McKillop - they are hoping to add to their Snowman and Sottish Rally wins.

David Henderson will start second, but he's yet to win on gravel this year but has previously finished third in a previous stage, while British Rally Championship contender Elliott Payne starts at three.

Meanwhile, Banchory's very own Bruce McCombie will take part in his all-new ford for it's maiden outing but his 23rd start.

Having drivers sign up from not only Scotland, from around the world's been great for the event, Mr Cotton added:

Fans of the thrilling event will get plenty of chances to see the cars in action as well as at the midway point at Milton of Crathes.

The Fetteresso Cowie Bridge location, just off the A597, offers three chances to see the cars race off into action at 9:30am, 12:50pm and 16:15pm.

Commentary will be provided throughout the day as well as a chance to speak with the crews and check out the unique cars.

Mr Cotton explains how it is a sport like no other:
