North east residents told to stay safe amid snow and ice warning

The cold snap across the North East is continuing and people are being warned of more snowy spells and difficult conditions.

A yellow warning is in place until Thursday.

The Met Office is forecasting as much as 20cm of snow in some parts. Fifteen centimetres was on the ground around Aberdeen Airport by Monday evening.

The forecaster is telling us to be prepared and says: "Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.

"If driving, leave more time to prepare and check your car before setting off; make sure you have essentials packed in your car in the event of any delays (warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger).

"If making a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated."

Schools in the region are either closed or delayed their opening this morning.

Some roads are also affected and Aberdeen City Council says it's gritting and salting pathways.

Transport Scotland is telling us to drive to the conditions if we need to travel, leave more time for our journeys and check the latest on the roads before we set off.
