North-east remains in same coronavirus tier despite level three speculation

The north-east is being kept under level two coronavirus restrictions - despite some health experts believing it should move up a tier.

But the first minister has not completely ruled introducing tougher measures in either Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire.

Nicola Sturgeon says the Scottish Government has been looking very closely at case numbers in the region, which have increased "quite sharply" in the last week.

The numbers are below the national average, but above some areas that are in level three.

She says the data for both areas will be analysed "in depth" over the coming days, before discussions take place with the local authorities and health officials, and a final decision will then be made.

A final decision on whether a move to level three is required will either be reached for next Tuesday's review, or before if the data merits that, the first minister has said.
