North-east faces cold snap as weather warning issued

Snow is expected to fall in the north-east over the next two days.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in the north-east on Wednesday and Thursday.

The warning begins at midnight on Wednesday and will last until around lunchtime on Thursday.

It covers the whole of Moray, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

According to the national meteorological service, snow showers and icy surfaces could bring some travel disruption.

They added: "Showers will fall as snow to low levels inland on Wednesday, continuing through Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"Accumulations of 2-5cm are possible at lower weather, some drifting and blizzard conditions are likely in the strong northerly winds.

"In addition, ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces, mainly where some of the showers fall as ran or sleet on some coasts."

Gritters have already been out on the roads in order to keep the roads and conditions safe.
