More than £4m being invested in renewing railway between Aberdeen and Dundee, but some closures needed

More than £4 million is being invested in renewing track on the line between Aberdeen and Dundee, but some closures are needed during the next few weekends.

The short-term closures are required due to the complexity of the engineering work.

Replacement bus services between Aberdeen and Dundee will be in place during the next three Sundays on 30 January, 6 February and 13 February.

During the next three weekends, engineers will be working to replace two miles of railway at various locations around Cove Bay, as well as both Montrose and Arbroath in Angus.

Network Rail say that its teams will be removing the old track before laying new stone ballast, sleepers, and rails.

Passengers are being urged to check their journey before they start to travel.

More information on the changes to services over these weekends can be found on the National Rail website or individual operators’ websites.

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail route director for Scotland, said: "Our engineers will be working around-the-clock to complete these projects as quickly as possible.

"Helping to make our infrastructure more resilient and more reliable, the work we are doing is part of a five-year, £4 billion investment in our railway.

"However, such complex improvement work cannot be delivered without some short-term disruption of the railway and we’re urging passengers to plan ahead and check their journey in advance."
