A memorial service is to be held for Hazel Nairn, who was swept away by the River Don last November.

The 71-year-old fell into the river when it burst it's banks during flash floods, but has still not been found.

She was walking her dog, Ruaridh, who was found a week after the tragedy.

Her family have now organised a memorial to remember Hazel, taking place at Kintore Parish Church on the 7th of March at 11.30am.

Anneka Gray, Hazel's daughter, has arranged for a bench to be placed in Monnymusk Park, as it was "where she used to sit every day."

Mrs. Gray has been working alongside AberdeenShire Council and Sir Archie Grant, to give the bench a permanent home in her mother's favourite park.

With the help of local building company, Mark Paterson, and Harper Joinery from Alford, the bench will be completed by April.

The workers at a charity shop where Ms. Nairn used to volunteer have written a poem which will be engraved on a plaque for the bench.

Anneka has stressed her mother deserves to be remembered.

She said: "There will be songs, poems, pipers, and we will just make it as nice as we can."

"There will be people at the door with donation buckets, and any donations will go towards the bench."
