Man, 19, dies after two cars fall into River Dee following crash

A 19-year-old's died after two cars fell into the River Dee following a crash on the A93 this morning.

The other driver was left injured after the incident near Aboyne. 

Emergency services were called to the scene around 8am this morning on the Aberdeen to Ballater road. 

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the 26-year-old man is in a stable condition at Raigmore hospital. 

Police confirmed both cars had entered the water. 

Roads policing unit's Sergeant Eoin Maxwell said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, who has not yet spoken to police, to contact us.

"We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash.

“We would like to thank the members of the public who assisted at the scene of the crash this morning.”

Aberdeen Coastguard, along with the Scottish Ambulance Service attended the scene along with fire crews and a boat team. 

The road remains closed in both directions between Aboyne and Dinnet with a diversion put in place on the B976 and B9158.
