Local makers turn digital for festive market

Local sellers and makers have come together to hold their very own digital market this weekend.

Aberdeen Etsy Team came up with the idea to hold a virtual market following the success of their annual Christmas shopping events.

It aims to highlight small businesses and celebrate our maker, designer and artisan community by shopping local this festive period.

The team of volunteers have created their own online gift guide for the public to discover what the north-east has to offer in terms of ceramics, textiles, illustration and jewelry.

Lori Wilson, who is a volunteer Etsy seller leader for the Aberdeen team, explains why it was so important to showcase local businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The message of the event is to stay home, stay safe and shop local by “staying in your PJs, grabbing a hot beverage while blasting out some warm wintery tunes”.

Over the weekend, the Aberdeen Etsy social media channel will let you get to know some of the vendors you are buying from studio tours, virtual stalls and live demonstrations.

The Etsy market also fundraises cash for charities and the team have chosen to support CHAS and Sands.
