Heavy rain and snow causes travel trouble in north-east

Heavy rainfall and snow are causing disruption for travel across the north-east.

The amber weather warning in place by the Met Office is set to continue until tomorrow morning, affecting the majority of Aberdeenshire. 

SEPA have issued a flood alert for the city and the shire until further notice as heavy rain could cause flooding. 

The environment protection agency says it could cause floods to low lying land, roads and localised flooding could affect properties. 

Elsewhere, police are advising drivers to take care on the A96 between Inverurie and Aberdeen due to surface water on the road. 

On the A920 between Huntly and Dufftown, there's reports of a vehicle being stuck due to snowdrifts in excess of a metre. 

Snowgates on the A93 remain closed as well as the B974 at the Bridge of Dye and the A939 facing the Lecht Ski Centre. 

Bear Scotland has also said there is a significant amount of rain falling on the A90. 

Stagecoach has made changes to their services with the 201 from Braemar to Aberdeen starting at Ballater, the 442 from Insch to Alford is not running and the 220/X20 from Aberdeen to Alford is running with a 20 minute delay. 

Meanwhile, Aberdeenshire Council have shut several schools or have made changes to the school transport with the full list available on their website.

Aberdeen remains under a yellow weather warning of snow set to last until midday tomorrow.
