Glass installed as bookies' favourite to become next Aberdeen boss

Former Aberdeen midfielder Stephen Glass is the bookies' favourite to take over as manager following the departure of Derek McInnes.

The 44-year-old is currently a coach with Atlanta United in the US - a club that have close links with the Dons.

He played for the Dons between 1994 and 1998 and made more than 100 appearances.

Others being quoted at short odds to take over include the former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson, who left Fir Park earlier this season, Enzo Maresca - an Italian coach at Manchester City's academy, who has also been quoted for the Celtic job - Paul Sheerin, who is taking interim charge of the Dons for the remainder of the season, and former Scotland managers Craig Levein and Gordon Strachan.

Club legend Alex McLeish, Paul Lambert - who recently left his position at Ipswich - and recently departed Celtic boss Neil Lennon are also on the bookies' shortlist.

The likes of current St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin, former Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley, and the ex-Ross County manager Derek Adams have also been mentioned as potential candidates - as are up-and-coming coaches such as Shaun Maloney and Darren Fletcher.

Chairman Dave Cormack has vowed to get the search for a new manager under way "immediately" - with the aim of having them in place to help rebuild the squad in the summer.

Last night he paid tribute to McInnes but admitted the time was right for the 49-year-old to leave the club.
