Fourth recycling centre reopens as more items of waste accepted

Queues outside Tullos recycling centre earlier this month

The Bridge of Don recycling centre in Aberdeen is reopening on Monday.

The facility has been shut since the start of lockdown - with other recycling centres in the city having reopened almost a fortnight ago.

Traffic marshals will be at the site on Scotstown Road with queues expected. The road will be closed to general traffic between its junctions with Dubford Road and Shielhill Road.

Access to the household waste and recycling centre and local residents will be maintained and an alternative route for other traffic will be available via The Parkway, Ellon Road, Tarves Road, and Shielhill Road.

Meanwhile all centres in Aberdeen will start accepting a broader range of materials next week - but householders are still being encouraged to only visit the facilities if necessary - and to store items at home for now, if they can.

Wood, scrap metal and electrical appliances - along with general household waste, garden waste, cardboard and bulky items - can now be reycled.

Anyone visiting a centre needs to have proof that they live in the city, such as a utilities bill or driving licence.

Councillor John Wheeler, operational delivery convener, said: "It’s good to see the last of our four recycling centres is reopening and I’m sure residents in the Bridge of Don area will appreciate it.

"People are reminded they should try and go to a recycling centre at a quieter time if possible as they’re still busiest in the mornings and queues will be expected at Bridge of Don for several days."
