Five North East pie makers in running for worlds best pie crown

Five pie makers and bakers in the north east are fighting it out to see who has the flakiest pastry and crispiest crust in the world.

They'll find out whose come out on top next month at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, having all made the shortlist.

The Bread Guy in Aberdeen, Bruce of the Broch in Fraserburgh, Pie Aroma in Strichen, JG Ross in Inverurie and Hame Bakery in Peterhead will find out their fate on January 16.

The ceremony in Cumbernauld will be hosted by Carol Smillie.

Their tasty treats were some of 500 pies from 78 stores being judged last month.

Each pie was looked at on taste, touch, appearance and smell.

They can win any of nine categories: apple pie, football pie, sausage roll, bridie and steak pie, hot savoury, haggis savoury, macaroni pie, vegetarian savoury and the overall award.
