Fire crews tackle blaze at Aberdeen school

Firefighters tackled a large blaze at an Aberdeen school this afternoon.

Crews were called to Northfield Academy following reports of an explosion - with large plumes of black smoke visible for miles around.

Firefighters used a height appliance to reach the flames.

The blaze appeared to have taken hold on an area of the school which was being worked on.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.43pm today to reports of a fire at Northfield Academy, Granitehill Place, Aberdeen.

"Operations control mobilised four appliances and one aerial rescue pump to the scene.

"There are no reported casualties at this time."
