Fire crews spend hours tackling wildfire on Aberdeen hill

Fire crews tackled a gorse wildfire on Aberdeen's Brimmond Hill for almost three hours yesterday.

Three appliances were called to the scene after reports of the incident came in around 8.15pm.

Crews are expected to return to the scene this morning for an inspection after sending a stop message just before 11pm on Sunday evening.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said it had spread to around 150m by 70m before it was extinguished.

Police had closed off Borrowstone Road and had advised motorists to avoid the area.

Last week, the fire service sent out a wildfire alert due to the drier and hot weather at the weekend.
