David Goodwillie returns to Clyde FC after condemnation of his transfer to Raith Rovers

David Goodwillie has returned to Clyde FC after his transfer to Raith Rovers at the end of January that caused outrage.

It has been confirmed by both clubs this afternoon that he has moved back to Broadwood on loan until the end of this season.

Fans reacted with outrage after the transfer was confirmed from the League One side to the Championship club at the end of the January transfer window.

In 2017, Goodwillie and another footballer who he used to be team-mates with at another club David Robertson, now retired, were branded as rapists in a civil court case and were ordered to pay £100,000 of damages to a woman.

The Kirkcaldy club apologised for the hurt caused by Goodwillie's transfer to Stark's Park.

A statement on the Raith Rovers website reads: "The club can confirm that we have agreed terms with Clyde FC for a loan arrangement for David Goodwillie until the end of the current season.

"We would like to thank Clyde FC for their cooperation."

On the Clyde FC website, a statement reads: "Following an initial approach by Raith Rovers, and subsequent agreement between the two clubs, we can confirm that David Goodwillie has returned to Broadwood on loan until the end of the 2021-22 season.

"This enables David to return to first team activities including training and playing and, in doing so, continue his career in football at the current time."
