Celebrate Aberdeen Parade's back with a bang as thousands take to the Granite Mile

Colour, atmosphere and a plethora of people is the right ingredients to serve up a Celebrate Aberdeen parade.

Thousands will march down the Granite Mile tomorrow to honour the hard work of charities, social enterprises, volunteer groups and third sector organisations in the city.

A number of events will occur on the day with the Newtonhill Pipe Band starting the day with the Rock Choir closing it out at the Castlegate.

Celebrate Aberdeen volunteer Emily Findlay. “The work they do and the contribution they make to their chosen organisation makes a massive, positive impact on countless thousands of people right across the city and shire.

"This event is all about saying thank you, and publicly acknowledging what they bring to our society.

“We’ve always had amazing support from members of the public who come along to watch the parade and we’re confident that we will get that again.

"If you’ve not come to watch this before, we invite and encourage you to come along this year. It’s both heartwarming and humbling and a sight not to be missed.”

A unique running race will proceed the parade called Mel's Union Street Mile, named after Mel Edwards, which allows runners from Primary 3 to veterans to take part.

The race starts from Holburn Junction from 10:30am, with the parade setting off at 11am.

An awards ceremony recognising some of the exceptional work people do in the city and the region will be held later in the year at the Chester Hotel on October 28.
