Call for north-east drivers to help people reach Covid vaccine appointments

An appeal has been launched to find volunteer drivers - to help get people to their coronavirus vaccination appointments in the north-east.

Health officials are getting an increasing number of requests for help in getting people to vaccination centres.

The Royal Voluntary Service is looking to hear from people who are able to drive their own vehicle, with full training and a risk assessment provided.

Those involved will have any costs they incur reimbursed.

Drivers are needed throughout Grampian - but in particular in the Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Turriff, Banchory, Insch, Buckie, Speyside and Elgin areas.

A spokesperson said: "This recruitment drive will help people attend their Covid vaccination appointment.

"Vaccination is our best way out of the pandemic, it’s so important that everyone can attend their vaccination when they receive their appointment notification.

"Volunteers have made a massive contribution to support people to stay safe and well during the pandemic, they have been a lifeline for many in our communities.

"If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a volunteer, please go to www.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk or call 01224 937110."
