Braemar Gathering postponed for second year running

Organisers have announced this year’s Braemar Gathering and Highland Games will be cancelled for the second year in a row.

The gathering’s organising committee and the Braemar Royal Highland Charity say they made the decision in light of concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was due to take place on September 4.

David Geddes, president of the Royal Highland Society, said: “This has been an extremely difficult decision to make. To cancel a gathering is something which I had hoped I would never have to do in my time as president.

“Now, to cancel for a second year is heart-breaking. However, there is still uncertainty surrounding the spread of the virus and we must put thewellbeing of our community, visitors and volunteers first.”

Tickets for 2020’s gathering will be valid for the next event, which is due to take place on September 3, 2022.
