The Save the Belmont campaign, who have resurrected the cinema which closed in October last year, will be screening the festive favourite "It's a Wonderful Life" on the 23rd of December.

The screening of Frank Capra's classic had become a yearly tradition at the Aberdeen film house before its closure last year, which left 20 people unemployed.

However, some ex-employees and concerned people in the community started a campaign to save the cinema which became Belmont Community Cinema Ltd., and they were chosen by Aberdeen City Council to bring the cinema back to life.

Dallas King, who was a part of the campaign and now helps to run the cinema, says the reception to the news has meant a lot to the volunteers.

"The response to the event has been nothing short of amazing, quite overwhelming, to be honest".

"We went live with tickets at 12pm yesterday and within five hours we had 150 already fully booked. We're now looking to increase the capacity of the event so as many people as possible can take part and share this Christmas classic with everyone else".

"It's been a lot of work to try to bring the Belmont back at this point. We came together as a group of people who love the Belmont cinema because we worked in the Belmont and wanted to see it return".

"It's been a long road, we're under no illusions that there's a long, long road still ahead of us, but events that we're able to put on like this, where we can bring the Belmont community together, it just galvanises us".

The screening will take place at Cowdray Hall on the 23rd of December at 2pm.
