Aberdeen teenager dons Santa suit as he fundraises for foodbank

An Aberdeen teenager's been spreading Christmas cheer this week as he donned a Santa suit to shop for his local foodbank.

Lewis McGregor, 19, spend more than £1,700 at an Aberdeen Tesco to donate items to Tillydrone Community Flat Foodbank.

He raised £2,500 over the year and had spent £500 on blankets earlier this week to help people keep warm with a further £220 spend on toiletries.

Mr McGregor said he hoped wearing his suit in the supermarket would bring a smile on to kid's faces.

He added: "Last year I took a load of shopping to the Tillydrone Community Flat Foodbank and saw the good it did when people came to collect the food.

“It will help a lot of people - I want to inspire other young people to help and get them into fundraising too.”

The Northfield teenager hopes to continue fundraising next year and he's looking to include his ice hockey team, the Aberdeen Predators, so more people get involved in helping out local residents.

Mr McGregor is also a committee member for charity Future Choices where the charity chairman, David Forbes, inspired the teen to put the money he raised to the foodbank.

He added he hopes his donation will make a difference to those who need it.
