Aberdeen couple to spread festive cheer though quiz

An Aberdeen couple are aiming to spread some festive cheer through virtual quizzing challenges through friends and family.

Since Christmas this year will be like no other due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jonathan Murray and Lynne Warren wanted to offer people an alternative to protect their loved ones.

They launched a website called House of Quiz back in the summer and have offered up hundreds of quiz challenges worldwide.

The specific festive page was designed to help people still connect with those they cherish but in a safe way than within the Christmas bubbles.

Jonathan said: “For me in particular and I suppose for most families in the UK this is a really important time as it is sometimes the only time of the year you see certain members of your family.

“So we thought we could do some special Christmas quizzes and put them up on the website.

“I know doing zoom or teams calls as a Christmas celebration isn’t a perfect solution but it is the safest thing to do.

“You will be able to a lot of the same stuff you just won’t have that social, face to face interaction you normally would.

“Maybe that’s what will characterize 2020 – the year of the digital Christmas – then next year we will go back to having our normal Christmases again.”

The 31-year-old came up with the idea when lockdown began in March and, as demand grew, the decided to create the website, which has gone from strength to strength.

When asked of their plans for the website’s future, Jonathan said: “The plan for House of Quiz is that it is basically a hobby of my partner and I’s – we will keep making quizzes until there’s no longer a need for them.

“We will keep making them available, not just at Easter or other holidays, but throughout the year.

“So that is something you don’t have to worry about there will always be new quizzes available.”
