A dualling consultation on the A9's been launched today to hear from all users on the impact of its delays.

It comes following a petition from road campaigner Laura Hansler, who is urging the Scottish Government to make good on their 2011 promise to dual the road.

As part of the consultation, it will also ask whether they back a national memorial to those who have lost their lives on the road.

Scottish Parliament’s public petitions committee convenor Jackson Carlaw says it's an important part of the consultation:

It was revealed earlier this year, the route between Inverness and Perth will not be dualled by 2025 as originally planned.

A total of 13 people lost their lives on the same stretch last year.

Mr Carlaw added: "The continued loss of life on the A9 is a tragically regular reminder of the need to improve the safety of the route and the consultation offers a vital opportunity for everyone to contribute their thoughts on how best to do this.

“Your input matters, and we want to hear from road users, communities along the route and businesses alike.

“This is an opportunity to make your voices heard and to consider how to create a safer and more efficient A9 that protects all those who travel along it.”

The consultation also wants to hear what the best approach would be to dual the road as well as public safety measures.

Mr Carlaw wants everyone in Scotland to get involved, not just those who live in the area.

The Scottish Government says it remains fully committed to completing the project, with a revised timetable expected in August.

It runs until September 15 and can be found here.
