No current plans for Aberdeenshire lockdown - but city restrictions may be extended

The first minister has confirmed there are no current plans to extend lockdown into Aberdeenshire - but says that restrictions in Aberdeen may be extended.

The rules - which include the closure of bars and restaurants - are up for review on Wednesday, and Nicola Sturgeon says they will not remain in place for any longer than is necessary.

But she says they need to ensure they keep the restrictions long enough for the outbreak to be brought under control.

It was confirmed today that in the 15 days since July 26, there have been 231 cases in Grampian identified - with 157 of those linked in some way to the Aberdeen cluster.

A total of 852 close contacts have been spoken to and told to self-isolate - though this does not represent 852 unique individuals.

Since yesterday, a further 29 people have tested positive for the virus, with 18 of those in the Grampian region.

Original 106 asked Ms Sturgeon and chief medical officer Dr Gregor Smith to provide more detail on the 74 positive cases in the region which are not linked to the Aberdeen cluster.

You can see their response in our video above.

Dr Emmanuel Okpo, consultant in public health medicine at NHS Grampian, said: "A significant amount of work has gone on throughout the weekend to interview detected cases and identify their close contacts.

"This work continues to happen quickly. If our teams get in touch with you to tell you are a close contact of a detected case, you must follow all their guidance on self-isolation.

"Our message remains one of personal responsibility. We must all keep sticking with the government guidance. Thorough handwashing, physical distancing, and the use of face coverings where these are required, are things we can all do to limit the spread of this virus."

To date, none of the detected cases associated with the cluster have required hospital treatment.
