Man dies and one in critical condition after fatal crash on A96

A man has died following a fatal crash on the A96 between Aberdeen and Inverness.

The incident happened between Keith and Huntly around 7.35pm on Monday evening. 

A lime green Ford Fiesta and a yellow Ford Transit van were involved with the driver of the Fiesta, an 18-year-old male, pronounced dead at the scene. 

Three people, aged 28,23 and 19, were in the van and were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary - with the 23-year-old in critical condition. 

Police are now appealing for information from the public after the road was closed for nine hours. 

Sergeant Craig McNeil, of the Road Policing Unit based in Aberdeen, said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we're appealing for people with any information, dash-cam footage and who perhaps saw either vehicle shortly before the crash to contact us."

The road has since reopened.
