A man has been arrested outside Scotstown Primary School in Aberdeen following the death of a woman in the city.

Police were called to Sunnybank Road at about 10.40am on Monday after concerns were raised about a person.

The body of a woman was found inside with a man later arrested in the Scotstown Road area of Bridge of Don at about 3.40pm.

A major police investigation has now been launched.

A spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council stressed the incident was not related to the school and measures were put in place as a precaution.

Martin Greig, convener of the local authority’s education committee, said it had been a distressing incident.

He added: “Council staff are doing all they can to provide any support needed by the school community.”

Police say inquiries are continuing.
