Heavy rain and thunder storms could cause travel chaos in north-east

Heavy rain and thunder storms are predicted throughout the day across the north-east.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for the region which was put in place at 6am until Thursday at 6am. 

Rain has already caused disruption along several roads in Aberdeen. 

Aberdeen City Council has made sandbags available from its Tullos and Bucksburn depots due to the concern of flooding. 

ScotRail have speed restrictions in place which include the Aberdeen to Inverness line. 

They are expected to say in place across Wednesday and Thursday with alternative road transport in place to support changes to services. 

Meanwhile, Network rail have measures in place to deal with the severe weather almost a year on after a landslip resulted in a fatal derailmeant near Stonehaven. 

Brett McCullough, Donald Dinnie and Chris Stuchbury died on August 12, 2020, after the 6.38am service from Aberdeen to Glasgow hit a landslip at Carmont. 

Network Rail says they will be closely monitoring the conditions. 

Showers and possible thunder is possible throughout the night in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
