Rick Cowie Questions & Answers
What is the best gig you have ever been to?
To many to choose from really, but I’ve seen Status Quo several times in the north-east (they always put on a good live show). I saw Meatloaf at the Capitol in the 80s, which was brilliant and have worked with several bands when they’ve performed here (Wet Wet Wet, Travis, Beverley Knight, Hue & Cry, Lloyd Cole) who were all superb. Favourite gig was probably a comedy one though; Billy Connolly at the Capitol several year ago.
Who’s the most famous person you have met?
I once met John McRuvie in the Original 106 kitchen but was so awe struck I couldn’t speak, I just shrieked and ran out (apparently this happens a lot with the audience at his gigs too).
What is the strangest thing that has happened on your show?
Once when I spilt coffee on the control desk of the studio. There was strange flash of light and then the studio went off air. I think it was paranormal but the engineers disagree.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
What was your favourite childhood sweet?
I remember being keen on a Texan bar, ‘proper’ Sports Mixture (when the black ones were liquorice flavour) and I’m old enough to remember when Double Decker’s had raisins in them.
And don’t get me started on Creme Eggs being bigger when I were a lad though…
Do you have a secret talent?
Anyone who has listened to my show, or met me, will know that I have absolutely no talent whatsoever.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Let’s not dig up the ‘Cunning Stunts’ incident from several years ago again please.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Look right, then left, then right again before crossing (Tufty circa 1974).
Who is your most embarrassing celebrity crush that you’ve ever had?
See question 2…
What has been your most favourite moment at Original 106 so far?
Our Christmas party last year was pretty good. I just had a small sherry but others (you know who you are Martin Ingram) were very merry.
