About Neil
Born in the same year as Waterloo won the Eurovision I moved to the north east when I was four and have, for the past twenty or so years called it home.
On leaving school I wanted to do two things, take a gap year to travel, the second work as some kind of engineer. I tried the latter for a while before putting on a backpack. It was whilst doing this that I realized that I was looking for something new – then whilst in Australia I met a local radio presenter. The rest as they say….
Love music, love live music, have a guitar that I play very badly (I’d probably learn to play more if I didn’t have a singing voice like Jimmy Nail’s)

Which celebrity do you secretly fancy, (but you know you shouldn’t)?
Kate Bush or Tori Amos.
If you could have written any song ever what would it be?
Stuck inside of mobile (with the Memphis blues again) – Bob Dylan
Perfect dinner date and what would be on the menu?
Paul or Ringo, egg and chips.
Favourite on-air moment?
Being strapped in to a bungy sling shot with a pair of headphone TAPED around my head holding onto both a microphone and dear life.
If you could change any part of your body what would it be?
My left shoulder. It has recently started making strange ‘clicking’ noises.
Favourite Venue?
O’Malley’s (don’t know if it’s still there, but it was whilst on holiday in Oz a few years back)
Favourite ever gig?
AC/DC at the AECC, or Paul McCartney at Earls Court. Both brilliant for completely different reasons.
Which firework best describes you.
The one that’s lit, then does nothing, everyone goes ‘ohhhh, it’s not gone…’ BANG! WHIZZ WHOOP! Shoots 300 feet in the air and explodes into a thousand bright lights.
Describe your best ever fancy dress.
Christmas Party Nights from 10 years ago, I dressed as a Nun. Complete with guitar case. Brilliant – all the girls thought I was the novelty stripper.
What’s your first ever memory.
Playing on my toy AA rescue services van.
Favourite album of all time?
Revolver by the Beatles
Worst childhood misdemeanour?
Kicking a football ‘Through’ a green house when I was 9. I watched the ball leave my foot and project at slow motion directly towards the ‘Forbidden zone’ of the garden. If only the tomato plants had slowed the ball down enough to prevent it exiting out the other side! Dad was less than happy!
