Want to get to know Martin a bit better? Here’s his DJ Q&A:

What is the best gig you have ever been to?

Let me answer this way….Biggest – probably Paul McCartney at Hampden; Seen Squeeze a couple of times – GREAT band, outrageously talented; Loudest – Oasis at AECC and Aztec Camera at Eden Court Inverness, Oddest – Sigue Sigue Sputnik at Aberdeen’s Ritzy in 1986

Who’s the most famous person you have met?
Sting. I’ve also interviewed Mickey Rooney….on the phone.

What is the strangest thing that has happened on your show?
Certainly, strangest thing for me in the last few years was day one at Original 106. Not many DJs in their career can say that they “launched” a brand new radio station, I was the first presenter and first official voice on Original. And even after nearly 20 years broadcasting experience – I was still cacking it!

If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Alchemy.

What was your favourite childhood sweet?
Wine gums.

Do you have a secret talent?
I like playing my guitar, and I flatter myself I’m quite good until others, like Neil Weightman or my son totally show me up.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Too many to mention, and too cringy to recount here.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
As far as life on the radio goes….being told to relax, be yourself and not be plastic Mister DEE Jaaaay!

What’s your favourite possession?
I like my Iphone, but it’s old and slow now – not at all like me…

Who is your most embarrassing celebrity crush that youve ever had?
It’s not embarrassing at all, but I find comedy actress Rebecca Front very alluring. Alluring…it that a word?

What has been your most favourite moment at Original 106 so far?
When we did The Original 106 Fugitive and gave away thousands of pounds, we all had great fun with that, and so did our listeners.

Tell us something about another Original 106 presenter?
Dave Connor prefers wearing perfume to aftershave. I think his favourite is “Tweed” by Lentheric.
