A man has appeared in court following an alleged hit-and-run in Aberdeen.

A 66-year-old man was left with serious injuries following the incident at the junction of Powis Terrace and Bedford Road on Monday afternoon.

George Cowie, 22, appeared on petition at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.

He faces charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice, the possession of controlled drugs and road traffic offences.

He made no plea and was released on bail, as the case was committed for further examination.

Police say a 33-year-old man is due to appear in court tomorrow, charged with road traffic offences.

Road Policing Inspector Steve Manson said: “The road was closed for some time while we carried out our investigations and we would like to say thank the public for their patience and also to all those who came forward following our appeal for witnesses.”

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner says it’s investigating the incident, amid claims the car involved was being followed by police at the time.
