Fears of mass job cuts at City Council

Trade Unions are calling on Aberdeen City Council to be straight with its members over possible redundancies.

The opposition Labour group says outside experts drafted in to help the cash-strapped authority are warning there will have to be significant redundancies to balance the books.

The Transport and General Workers union predicts there will be at least a thousand lay-offs as a result of the £27 million budget cuts.

But Council Leader Kate Dean says the cuts have already been budgeted for and talk of job losses on this scale is preposterous.
